Most of the authors on this list have been on my radar through bloggers or BookTok, but it always takes me ages to get around to hyped books and writers. In some cases I even have one of their books! So I’d like to get around to it some day!
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme where each week you list ten books. I’m actually doing last week’s topic (which I…forgot to post), which was: authors I haven’t read, but want to. And there’s quite a few!
Talia Hibbert
Author of Take a Hint, Dani Brown and the subsequent series.

I’ve seen these books all over the place, and they look fun and I’m reading more romance books recently, so I’m very much planning to read this author. I own book two, which I believe some bloggers like best, but I’m such a stickler for reading order, so I need to get my hands on book 1, first!
Expectations: funny, heartwarming.
Brandon Sanderson
Author of Mistborn and a million other long books

That much-loved fantasy saga is one of the five books on my backlist reads challenge, so this is really two birds with one stone. Another fan-fave author.
Expectations: extremely excellent plot, like my expectations are sky level
Martha Wells
I’m grabbing myself by the shoulders and shaking at this point, because why haven’t I read Network Effect yet?

Expectations: unexpected plot, funny
Helen Hoang
Author of The Kiss Quotient, The Heart Principle etc.

I like the premise of these books, with a female character type we don’t see a lot. (Neurodivergence is sorely lacking from such a female-centric genre, isn’t it?) However, I haven’t got around to reading any of these. I’m going to ‘borrow’ someone’s Prime membership and read the one that’s on Kindle Unlimited to get going!
Expectations: clever, fun, romantic
Elizabeth Barton
Author of Olive and My Name is Lucy Barton

This author is a regular on literary prize lists and has been on my radar for a while. Again, Lucy Barton is one of the books on my backlist reads challenge, so the birds need to watch out.
Chloe Gong
Author of These Violent Delights

The author has a new book releasing later this year, as I believe the above trilogy is now wrapped-up. This is very much the definition of a TikTok book, as I keep seeing it recommended on there! To be honest, I don’t know what it’s about, but if I don’t get around to reading it, I may just pick up her new book!
Expectations: action-packed romance, YA vibes
Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Author of Mexican Gothic

The book from this author that has actually been on my TBR is Gods of Jade and Shadow, although the one above is what I see recommended most often. Despite not having read any of her books, I do think of this author as being at the vanguard of gothic fantasy, as well as Latin American-inspired fantasy, so I am very excited to read some of her works.
Expectations: gothic, compelling
Bell Hooks
Author of All About Love and a lot more

Unfortunately, I haven’t read any of this author’s work, even though she is very prolific. I believe this book is the most popular, although I’m very intrigued by her earlier work Feminist Theory.
Expectations: eye-opening, intellectual
Jennifer Saint
Author of Ariadne

This book is actually in my possession twice over, so my excuse for not having read it is non-existent. I know this author is among the women writers leading the way is reshaping classic Greek myths to centre women, but is one I haven’t read yet.
Expectations: tragic, empowering
Ann Leckie
Author of Raven Tower, Ancillary Justice

An award winner in triplicate, this author is well-known in both fantasy and sci-fi circles, a true testament to her writing skill, surely. I’ve had both of these books on my TBR for a while!
Expectations: clever, emotional
I am kind of a Silvia Moreno-Garcia superman, so I am obligated to tell you that her books are amazing. One of the most versatile writers I’ve ever come across.

Well this only makes me more excited to read them! She does seem to have written quite a lot in a short space of time. I’m sure there’ll be something I like!

You’ve got some great authors on this list. I love, love, love Talia Hibbert’s books. And Elizabeth Strout is amazing. I also recommend Moreno-Garcia and Martha Wells, though I’m kind of an outlier on Helen Hoang’s books. I’ve tried two and didn’t care for them.
