2021 Wrap-Up & New Year’s Book Tag

I haven’t written my mini-reviews for my December reads yet, but I’m charging ahead into the new year. (Even though we’re already a week in, how on earth??) January always goes by absurdly fast, so I like to take a moment where I can to look back at the year just gone.

Thank you to everyone who read or interacted with my blog during 2021, as well as all of the excellent bloggers I’ve read. It truly makes for such an invigorating experience blogging!

Here, I have answered questions from the New Year’s Book Tag, which was first created by the booktuber Bookables.

Below that, I have linked to some of the blog posts I wrote that I most enjoyed.

Happy reading everyone and here’s to an excellent 2022!

How many books are you planning to read in 2022?

My Goodreads Challenge total is always 50, and I like the nice roundness of that number. However, I expect another incredibly busy year so I’m going to go easy on myself and say 45, the same amount I read this year.

Almost a book a week is quite a challenge! (Though I’m always impressed by bloggers who read double this number yearly!!)

Name 5 books that you didn’t get to read in 2021 but will prioritise

Three of these are books from a reading challenge I set myself and was unable to complete. The Little Friend is a book I’ve owned and not read for a long time, and Redemptor because I was very excited to read this sequel to Raybearer in 2021 and didn’t get a chance to!

What genre do you want to read more of?

I have a few unread books from my Reading Romance challenge and I have been enjoying the genre a lot in the past year, so definitely this one!

What are 3 non-book related goals for your 2022?

These will not be book related but blog related, sorry to be boring!

First of all, my blog is overdue an aesthetic revamp. Hoping to get that underway soon!

Second, I would like to achieve a minimum of a post a week on this blog. I have been lacking in writing in the past couple months! But I feel this is an achievable goal for myself, and I owe my readers!

Third, joining a book-aggregating platform that isn’t Goodreads. Storygraph is the one I have been eyeing up.

What’s a book that you’ve had forever that you still need to read?

I’m bad at reading non-fiction, but one of the books I added to my reading list is I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by the incomparable Maya Angelou. However, now that I’m actively picking up memoirs, it seems like a good time to read this one.

What’s one word you hope 2022 will be?

I’m looking forward to a bit of change and excitement this year, preferably of the good kind!

Now here are some of my fave posts of the year:

A Book Haul

Is this one not self-explanatory? I love book hauls! I think I’m due another soon…

Audiobooks I’ve Been Listening To

I love audiobooks, and this post was just a reminder for me to talk about them more on here. I may still be listening to one book on this list, however (😅).

2 Read, 2 Reviews

I really enjoy doing comparative reviews and this one, looking at The Son of the Storm and The Unbroken, two fantasy debuts of 2021, was particularly fun to write.

Worth the Hype Review

This series of reviews is another I’m hoping to continue this year. So many books, YA particularly, are extremely vaunted and it’s difficult to see why, so focusing on whether they are good reads or not seems a worthy exercise.

This review in particular focused on The Cruel Prince series.

If you have also done this tag, please link your post below so I can read your replies, otherwise please write one! I love seeing people’s reading summarised, it’s such a small yet very telling insight into others’ habits. 😆

Happy new year everyone!

  1. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of The Little Friend – it’s the only one I’ve never got into, despite really enjoying The Goldfinch and The Secret History. I also totally nerded out on the Storygraph when I got round to updating it in December – much cooler than Goodreads!

    • I think half of the reason I want to join Storygraph is because of how cool the graphs look 😂

The Little Friend has been on my bookshelf for ages but I have heard people enjoy it less than the other two. Admittedly, I don’t expect it to be anywhere near as good as The Goldfinch, but I still have high expectations!
