Surprisingly, it is very hard to make a proper list of books on my wish list. I think that because I just buy or borrow a book I want to read, these have ended up being a mix of books I forgot were on my TBR and special editions here and there. But this Secret Santa of a prompt was very cute!

Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen

I have been intending to give this book another read for a while, now that I’m older and I think I may enjoy it more.

I had intended to read or reread all of Jane Austen’s books, but this was put on pause halfway through reading Mansfield Park for no other reason than because I got distracted. I did however, get my hands on a couple of excellent Chiltern Classics editions of these books, which is also the version on my wishlist for Pride & Prejudice!

Call of the Bone Ships – R. J. Barker

This is one of those books I’m never going to read until I actually get my hands on it. I read the first one on Kindle too, so I don’t know what’s taking me so long! Therefore, it’s on my wish list.

To Be Taught, If Fortunate – Becky Chambers

Again, this book is on here because it’s something I will forget to read unless I have a copy. I really enjoy this authors’ space fiction, but I almost never buy novellas. As much as the format of the story is great, it does feel a bit strange to buy a story that’s less than 200-pages for the full price of a paperback, which is why I haven’t.

This is How You Lose the Time War – Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone

Here’s another novella I still haven’t read! This won a Hugo back in 2019 and has been on my radar ever since.

The Penguin Book of the British Short Story – ed. Philip Hensher

I have a very mixed reaction to short stories: they’re either a microcosm of excellent writing, or somewhat pointless. I think it is the kind of story structure I would rather write than read. However, I have read excellent short stories in the past, and this second volume of this series collects stories from British writers from the 1920s to the present day, and there are sure to be some gems in there!

In the Vanishers’ Palace – Aliette de Bodard

More short fiction! Clearly, there’s a theme throughout this list.

This sapphic fairytale retelling has been widely-praised and has been on my radar for years, I’ve just never got around to reading it!

Lore Olympus – Rachel Smythe

I mentioned this book in upcoming releases I was looking forward to, and it’s out now! I may not have written a post still about my favourite Webtoons, which this comic started as, but I’m still looking forward to reading this in book form. (Although I just know the different image resolution will throw me off.)

Rosewater – Tade Thompson

This book is a total award-winner: it won the Arthur C. Clarke, the Nommo award, was listed as a finalist for a couple of other awards. Plus it sounds very fascinating (and it’s a trilogy). What more could you ask for?

A Winter’s Promise – Christelle Dabos

I can’t entirely describe what vibes this book gives me, but it’s something very Spirited Away, both enchanting fairytale and deadly underneath. As one of the critics reviews for this book says, it’s a rare example of a Young Adult book in translation. I don’t think I have ever read a YA book that was translated fiction, so I look forward to checking this one out.

Collected Poems – Edna St. Vincent Millay

I never mention poetry on this blog, but I do engage with it a lot! This poet is a social media fave, I think, or at least I have seen her works a lot on aesthetic blogs on Instagram! I find her writing very touching and am keen to get my hands on a volume of her work.
